American Board of Medical Genetics

Had a call with CM today about the ABMG program at Harvard. She's the boss now of one of the previous graduates of the department. She's famous too as I'm told, in the field of human genetics. And she's such a nice lady too! Of course the discussion was not one to work for her directly, but her involvment with the ABMG program. I'm looking forward to meeting her.

Chinese dinner

A friend invited me and another friend to a chinese dinner. For Chinese new years I suppose. There were martial arts demonstrations, food, and a sea of people. I guess the martial arts thing was a given since it's organized by her dad's kung fu club. I've always been fascinated by martial arts. Mostly because I'm a boy. One of these days I'll take up something like that.

TGIF

It's again our department's turn to put on the Faculty TGIF, a monthly booze fest for scientists. There's always this guy there in some satin shirt and a few too many buttons unbuttoned to show off his hairy chest. He comes back for seconds too. Then thirds, fourths, fifths, and so on. I had a bet with a friend about the attendees this time. He was under the impression that there'd be ladies there with eighties hair styles. I said no way, this ain't the Purple Onion. So now he owes me three american dollars. Ha!

Bush party

The new student in the lab had a party... I think... can't quite remember details or if it happened. It's just an entry from my palmpilot and I'm writing all of this retrospectively and that memory is too far back to retreive with any fidelity.

Phone interview

Just cause it's a phone interview doesn't mean I won't dress up.

Had a call from JL, who's quite big in my field and it feels like talking to a celebrity. She seems like a tough lady, but I'm looking forward to meeting her. It'll be the best opportunity to get into a big lab and have a crack at those top tier papers!

The first paragraph

It is fortunate that Mendel chose the humble pea plant for his Treatises on Plant Hybrids of 1865. The observations with which he discovered his three laws of heredity form the basis of genetics as we know it today. However, had his focus been on a mammalian model, imprinted inheritance may have wreaked havoc on his theories.
