Schwabing!

Here comes the real Munich!

I am reporting from Munich, Germany on assignment meeting with a contractor that recently won a bid with our company. Pretty good perk for an intern huh?

Long flights were the order of the day in the beginning of course. Four hours to Toronto (where there was an amazing tank with dancing boxes), then eight more to Munich. Where a flight attendant asked if I had been a good boy when she handed me the ice cream that went with my airplane food. Our hotel is in the Schwabing district, which as far as I can tell from a one block radius around are just office buildings and heavy crow infestations.

Thousands of them, forming a canopy of crows squawking endlessly. I didn’t sleep a wink as usual on the plane so I was a walking zombie by the time we arrived. But having arrived during the day in Munich, we took the opportunity to see the famous Deutsche museum. This place had EVERYTHING! Exhibits on ships, trains, bridges, biology, music, pharmaceuticals, and the list goes on. Then our gracious hosts took us out to an authentic German dinner at a restaurant in a castle!

Paid for it the first day though where the meetings went all day and all night! Things slowed down a bit on the second day, where we even had time to literally run through a part of the old city, see a clock in a church go off with the fanfare of animated figurines. Then we also had some leibercasen, which is really fancy German spam. Pretty good though.

On Wednesday we went by train to Gottingen, to meet with another possible partner. Spent about 8-9 hours on the train that day going to and fro.

Thursday was much slower. Went through tons of boring documents, but had some time to check out more of the old city parts. Had half a duck! The skin was crispy, the meat was tender. Excellent. I was stuffed though!

Today, I head off to Amsterdam for a few days of R&R!
